‘Syria Army deals heavy blow to militants’

Syrian government forces launched attacks against militants in the governorates of Damascus, Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama, on Sunday and killed a large number of them, the official SANA news agency reported.

In addition, the Syrian armed forces destroyed their vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and communication devices.

Government forces also inflicted heavy losses on armed groups in the Damascus suburbs of Sheifouniyeh farms, Marj al-Sultan and Douma.

The forces rendered ineffective large supplies of arms, ammunition, and explosives, held by the militants in their hideouts.

In the city of Douma, near Damascus, Syrian troops destroyed militants’ hideouts, their weapons, including a 23 mm caliber anti-aircraft gun.

In the town of Daraya, southwest of the capital, soldiers eliminated a number of militants, including snipers, in al-Alali neighborhood, and al-Shiyah area.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of Army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government has said that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and that a very large number of the militants operating in the country are foreign nationals.

Several international human rights organizations have accused foreign-sponsored militants of committing war crimes.
