FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda “What a few media have reported on what happened in al-Qubeir, in the Hama region, is completely false,” the Syrian government said in a televised statement during the early hours of Thursday.
The statement was issued after the opposition Syrian National Council claimed that forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad “massacred” about 100 people, including 20 women and 20 children, in the village of al-Qubeir on Wednesday.
“A terrorist group committed a heinous crime in the Hama region which claimed nine victims. The reports by the media are contributing to spilling the blood of Syrians,” the government statement added.
The development comes after the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said on Wednesday an “armed terrorist group” killed a brigadier general and two other members of security forces in Damascus Countryside.
Two more members of Syrian security forces were also killed in an exchange of gunfire with an “armed terrorist group” in the western province of Latakia on Wednesday, SANA said.
Many people, including members of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil that began in Syria in March 2011. Syria says foreign-sponsored “saboteurs and terrorists” are responsible for the killings.
On May 25, 108 people, including 49 children and 34 women, were killed in the town of Houla, located in the central province of Homs and about 32 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of the provincial capital city of Homs.
Some Western governments blame Damascus for the Houla massacre, but the results of a Syrian government investigation into the deadly incident showed on May 31 that anti-Damascus armed groups had carried out the killings to “bring foreign military intervention against the country in any form and way.”
