Beitar Illit mayor arrested after running modesty squad

The mayor of the Israeli city of Beitar Illit, was arrested for questioning after police suspected that he was running a modesty squad operation in the city, according to court proceedings in Rishon Letzion.

The plot thickens in the Beitar Illit modesty squad scandal after Mayor Meir Rubinstein is under investigation for allegedly helping the activities of two so called modesty terrorist, who arrested in the city of Beitar Illit.

Police have revealed that the two modesty police officers were employed by the city of Beitar Illit officially as youth counselors.
Following the arrest of the two Beitar Illit residents, both about 30-years-old, are charged with terrorizing female residents who were considered guilty of indecent behavior. Police summoned the mayor of Beitar Illit for questioning under warning.

The mayor is suspected of fraud, breach of trust and obstructing a police investigation.
According to the allegations, the mayor provided assistance of the activities of the two youth councilors and their violence against women.

In addition, detectives suspect that the mayor tried to stop the police from obtaining information relevant to the investigation.
The mayor was released after questioning. The two modesty terrorist suspects will be brought to court later today. Police will request that they be jailed pending the completion of a police investigation.
