With all the Global Economic gloom and doom ubiquitous in the News for months and months, 161 Million Americans let loose to have some fun and spent $6.8 Billion Dollars to celebrate Halloween this year with each household spending an average of $72.31 for costumes, decorations and candy accord to Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federations.
Davis also said that Halloween is a “Recession-proof Holiday” because it gives not just children but also adults a chance to let loose and have some fun without spending a lot of money. Davis further stated that Political costumes were not trendy this year which is a sign of an Anti-Washington sentiment.
There was no sign of a Recessionin downtown St. Petersburg’s restaurant and night club district on Beach Drive last Saturday night as thousands of people were dining inside and outside on Beach Drives’ high priced but well worth it Restaurants and bars.
Patrons at the ”Tryst” night club (photo on right) were enjoying the party atmosphere and balmy weather we had last Saturday night.
The famous Cassis Restaurant Bar and French Bakery on Beach Drive (photo below right), were full inside and outside with patrons some with costumes. All Servers were dressed in their favorite Halloween Costumes. It was evident that people were having fun, some posing for photos of their costumes. Definetely no sign of Recession here.
Horse and Pumpkin Coaches or Surreys as they are also called (seen in photo below on right) on Beach Drive were for hire at $40 for 20-minute ride and $60 for a 45 minute ride and were a perfect sight to see for the Halloween celebration.

Apartments in downtown St. Petersburg went all out for this Halloween in designing a Halloween Graveyard and allowing Tenants to make their own Tombstones and their final words and place them in the Graveyard as seen in the photos below which also include the night-time photos of the Jack-O-Lanterns.
Writer’s Note: America, and especially Adult-Americans need more Halloween-type Holidays to let loose and have some fun to produce more “Endorphins” for better Mental Health and so they can be more productive and happier in their lives at work and at home.
