This Device Lets You Shoot Video of Yourself by Yourself

Ever wish there was a way to automatically film yourself without having to ask for help? Three Texas-based engineers have developed a new device called the SOLOSHOT, which automatically shoots and follows subjects from a distance without the need for a camera operator.

Here’s how it works. The SOLOSHOT base pairs with an armband sensor worn on the subject. Once the two are synched, the base will automatically rotate to keep the camera continually pointed at the subject. The pair can stay synched for distances up to 2000 feet and the base will track a target moving as fast as 140 mph. The SOLOSHOT can rotate 360 degrees and will fit onto cameras with standard tripod mounts.

The team behind the SOLOSHOT envisions its as the perfect tool for a wide range of customers: athletes who need video of their performances, filmmakers looking to cut costs, or just parents who want to enjoy their kid’s little league game instead of holding the camera for 2 hours.

The designers of SOLOSHOT are looking to raise $50,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund a production run. They’ve already raised almost half their goal with 42 days to go. The first 100 backers to pledge $299 or more will receive a SOLOSHOT at a steep discount — the retail price for the device is $479.
