Former President Donald Trump was arrested today at Fulton County Jail on felony charges tied to attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. For the first time in his four indictments this year, a mug shot was taken and released after his departure from the jail.
Trump managed to secure his release using a local bail bondsman. Fulton County Jail, notorious for its violent history and poor conditions, is where Trump was booked. This arrest is part of a larger investigation led by District Attorney Fani Willis, which includes racketeering charges against 18 co-defendants, such as Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, many of whom have already surrendered. The arrest comes after a federal judge denied delay requests from Meadows and Jeffrey Clark, setting a noon deadline tomorrow for all defendants to surrender voluntarily.
However, that didn’t stop Trump from communicating directly to the people. After a long absence from Twitter, stretching from January 8, 2021, to August 24, 2023, former President Donald Trump has made a dramatic return to the social media platform. With a single tweet featuring his mugshot and the words “Election interference. Never surrender!”, Trump signaled his re-entry into the Twitterverse. Supporters and critics alike were left agog, dissecting the implications of the tweet, which linked to his personal website, DonaldJTrump.com.
The tweet went up just before the former President joined Greg Kelly on Newsmax. Kelly said, “Mr. President, the fourth time you were in custody today. It’s totally absurd, in my opinion. But what was it like? How did they treat you? What was the experience like today in jail?”
Here is how Trump responded:
“Terrible experience. I came in. I was treated very nicely. But it is what it is. I took a mug shot, which I never heard the words mug shot. They didn’t teach me that at the Wharton School of Finance. And I have to go through a process. It’s election interference. You know that better than anybody. You cover it so well. Just a fantastic job, I have to tell you – for the listener. Fantastic job, Greg. But it’s a very sad experience, and it’s a very sad day for our country.
“This is a weaponized Justice Department and all of these indictments and cases. I have a couple of cases that are not indictments. It’s just cases where you have these left lawyers suing … It’s just like one thing after the next. And what they want to do is they want to try and wear you out … just an absolute horrible thing that they’re doing.
And I’ve never seen anything like it. This is third-world country. And I really believe they’re getting hit by — you know, we were going. There were tremendous crowds in Atlanta, and they were so friendly. So friendly. But this is a radical left district attorney, as we have in New York and as we have in all the other places, whether it’s district Attorney or AGs. We have that in New York. They’re going after [me] all for nothing! I mean, the AG case, they have no case against me at all … but they also do it in coordinat[ion] with the Department of Injustice in Washington. Terrible thing.”
