Twitter is about to stop counting images and URL links toward the 140-character limit.

The social networking site is to announce changes to its 140-character limit in the the next two weeks, that would allow users to cramp more content into a single tweet, according to Bloomberg.

Android Police reports:

Right now, shortened links take up 23 characters. Removing this would free up several additional words per tweet. This would be appreciated, though far short of the possible 10,000-character limit mentioned early this year.

This change goes further than giving Twitter users more room to express themselves. It encourages people to share more photos and other content. This is right in line with the service’s recent introduction of GIF searching and photo-heavy news Moments.

Will it raise the level of conversation on Twitter? Maybe. But your feed seems primed to become a bit prettier.
