An American service member was fatally shot during a U.S. Special Forces raid to rescue 70 hostages—some chained to a wall—in an ISIS compound in central Iraq, according to The Daily Beast.
Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler of Roland, Oklahoma, a highly-decorated soldier died.
The death is the first U.S. combat death since Obama withdrew our forces from Iraq back in 2011. Obama won the election in part by promising his liberal sheeple that “American combat troops are not going to be fighting in Iraq again.”
Well, he lied as usual.
Even after the raid, Pentagon officials, who have insisted there were no American boots on the ground, continued to call the U.S. effort a “train, advise and assist” mission, and refuse to call the mission in which our service member was killed, a ‘combat mission.’
Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said at a press briefing that the U.S. military was “not in an active combat mission” in Iraq. Cook called the raid “unique” but refused to say whether the U.S. military had conducted similar missions in the past.
The U.S. military planned the raid after receiving intelligence of an “imminent mass execution,” Cook said.
At the compound, the Kurdish and U.S. forces rescued approximately 70 hostages, including at least 22 Iraqi Security Force members, the official said. Some of the hostages were chained to the wall, a second defense official told The Daily Beast.
There were no Americans among the hostages, another U.S. official said.
The report indicates that during the raid, ISIS gunmen fired weapons, hitting a U.S. service member. He was flown to a hospital in Irbil but he died.

During his military careers Wheeler was deployed at least 17 times — most of those in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Army officials.
Wheeler’s awards and decorations for his service were numerous and include four Bronze Star Medals with Valor Device, seven Bronze Star Medals, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor Device, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, seven Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, eight Army Achievement Medals, the Good Conduct Medal (6th award).
He also earned the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal with six Bronze Service Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), the Army Service Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Valorous Unit Award (2nd Award), the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and three Overseas Service Bars.
For Obama, the only thing he cares about is his reputation. His legacy. As far as our fallen heroes go- they are just “bumps in the road…”
