UK activists urge ban on Israeli dates

The activists distributed leaflets in Arabic, English, Bengali and Urdu, calling on British consumers to boycott the dates which carry the Israeli regime’s brand.

Campaigners also urged the UK government to suspend its trade agreements with Tel Aviv, as the regime profits from selling its goods, which are produced on the occupied Palestinian territories, in shops and commercial markets across Europe.

Meanwhile, on Thursday July 26, the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) launched the campaign titled “This Ramadan Make a Date with Justice: Choose Occupation-Free Dates.”

Earlier in April, Britain’s fifth-largest food retailer and the country’s largest mutual business, the Co-operative Group, extended a boycott of goods from illegal settlements that have been produced on occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank.

After that, Unison, Britain’s largest trade union, representing 1.3 million public service workers, blocked the participation of an Israeli expert at an NHS-sponsored workshop on negotiation and conflict management in Manchester on May 8.

Furthermore, in a Parliamentary briefing on June 19, Christian Aid and Quakers called on the Tory-led government to introduce legislation against the import of products from illegal Israeli settlements.
