Press TV talks with Ibrahim Hooper, a member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) from Washington, to shed more light on the issue. Below is the transcription of the interview:
Press TV: Until when should Afghans and in general Muslims around the world see such desecration of holy sanctities and yet no punishment for the perpetrators only justifications?
Hooper: They are saying they are launching an investigation but unfortunately these investigations often lead nowhere.
I think even a more concern than the Quran is the repeated killing of civilians. Since in the last week or so, we had 8 Afghani children killed by NATO forces and these are equally significant when civilians die in this manner.
Press TV: As a member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, how do you explain the situation of Muslims in America, and their reaction to such desecrations?
Hooper: We do not see it as something that has been ordered by the military.
Unfortunately, you would think that after so many years in Afghanistan, military officials would understand the religious sensitivities and the cultural sensitivities and that prevent these kinds of incidents from happening but that does not seem to be the case.
Press TV: Once again, I want to ask my question that what preventive measures can the US military or the US Armed Forces take to prevent such issues from happening again?
Hooper: The best preventive measure is to bring our troops home and let the Afghan people sort out their own affairs.
