US supports al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria

Reports say that the foreign elements are made up of terrorists from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Libya. The Syrian army is currently engaged against insurgents in the northwestern city of Aleppo.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mr. Hisham Jaber, Director of the Middle East Studies Center, Beirut, about US support for al-Qaeda elements inside Syria and the propaganda buildup from America to push public opinion into a war with Syria using the same trick former US President George Bush used for the illegal invasion into Iraq a decade ago. The following is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Reports are now indicating that extremists and insurgents are very well active in Syria. The question is if the US is sending arms and logistics into Syria for the armed groups then it’s pretty much caught in a web of hypocrisy of aiding those who it deems as enemies pretty much along the lines of what Russia said yesterday that the US stance in Syria justifies terrorism. How do you perceive it?

Jaber: Yes. We learned that there are more than 6,000 elements that belong to al-Qaeda [and] are in Syria now. The most important groups of them are Kataeb Abdullah Azzam and Jabhat al-Islah.

The US cannot deny their presence. Moscow said that the borders with Syria especially those of Turkey and Iraq are under the control of elements that belong to al-Qaeda. The US, who provides those insurgents by all supports directly or indirectly through the Arab countries in the Persian Gulf, has a real problem because the US has tried to convince its own people for 10 or 12 years that al-Qaeda is the first enemy of America.

And now how can the American administration convince its own people that it’s supporting al-Qaeda. For this reason the Western countries including the US started to create, to prepare a psychological warfare in Syria in order to start a military intervention.

That psychological warfare consists of two important things: saying that Syria has chemical and biological weapons and that it’s very dangerous in case those weapons will be given to the hands of so-called terrorists…

On the other hand we cannot forget that chemical and biological weapons were the major reason the major pretext the major issue that allowed the US to invade Iraq. Chemical weapons, biological weapons and also the psychological warfare consists of making a propaganda that the Syrian regime has lost control on the borders and the Syrian regime has lost control on the capital, saying that battles are inside Damascus and also now focusing on the battles in Aleppo.

After the explosion on Damascus last week they focused on saying this regime will collapse and that it needs a military intervention to forbid the control of terrorists or extremists or al-Qaeda or whatever.

The purpose is to create a justification for military intervention. Israel is part of this psychological warfare, and America and the Persian Gulf countries.

Since the Free Syrian Army failed to have any success inside Damascus and the Free Syrian Army also showed that it does not have any real control; they don’t have any base or any seat of power; and they don’t have any buffer zone.

I think a military intervention is a serious issue now and the US is preparing it for direct intervention and is preparing the international society and public opinion for such war.
