Video: Springfield Police Fight Group of Children in School Playground






SPRINGFIELD, Ill – Police are investigating an incident between a Springfield police officer and a child at Harvard Park Elementary School in Springfield.

The Springfield Police Department have said they are aware of a video that has been getting alot of attention on social media this week. The video shows an officer striking a child while on the ground. A preliminary review of the officers’ body worn cameras and police reports provides additional information regarding this incident.

On May 26th, shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers responded to multiple calls regarding a large group of children gathered on the grounds and in the area of Harvard Park Elementary School, located at 2501 S. 11th Street.


Some of the children were reportedly involved in criminal activity. When the officers arrived they immediately began to disperse the crowd. The group reconvened on the east side of the school, at which time officers again told the children involved that they needed to leave.

Rather than leaving, two of the children continued to disobey the officers commands and became started being aggressive towards the officers. The children then allegedly resisted arrest and force was used to take them into custody. One of the officers involved in the incident suffered minor injuries.

The two children involved in the incident were arrested for aggravated battery to a police officer, mob action and resisting arrest.

The officers involved in the altercation at present are still on duty.
