‘Voter turnout strengthens Iran position’

In an exclusive interview with Press TV, Professor Seyyed Mohamed Marandi said the high voter turnout showed the Iranian nation’s trust in the electoral system.

“The fact that many of the Reformists and the most important of them all participated in the elections itself showed that they believe that the electoral system is trustworthy and they had confidence in it and it negates all the accusations made in the Western media with regards to the elections,” he added.

The 9th Majlis runoff election officially started across the country at 08:00 local time on Friday.

The runoff elections are being held in 33 constituencies across the country with 130 candidates from different political factions competing for the remaining 65 seats in the 290-member legislative body.

The first round of elections was held on March 2 with around 67 percent of some 48 million eligible voters taking part in the event.
