Zarif off to Baku

Tehran, April 6, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif left for Baku, Azerbaijan, on Wednesday to take part in the first tripartite meeting of Iranian, Russian and Azeri foreign ministers due to be held tomorrow.

The meeting indicated the resolve of the three governments to explore the grounds for cooperation in transit, trade, energy and playing key part to ensure international peace and security.

Iranian, Azeri and Turkish foreign ministers convened in the Iranian northern city of Ramsar to review tripartite cooperation.

Zarif expressed deep concern over escalation of hostility in Karabakh and the human cost of the conflict between Azerbaijan republic and Armenia over the territorial dispute.

Zarif said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is well-prepared to mediate between the Azeri and Armenian governments to reach a negotiated settlement on Nagorno-Karabakh.
