hershey's kisses

It seems we can’t go a day without hearing more news on 3-D printers. But this is news you’ll want to sit down for: Hershey’s is developing 3-D printer chocolate.

When you move to Mars, you’ll be able to have all the pizza you want from your 3-D printer oven. And, it looks like, all the chocolate you can eat, too.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Hershey’s has teamed up with 3D Systems, “a company that focuses on designing and manufacturing 3-D printers, for a joint development effort to create and explore opportunities for 3-D printing.”

William Papa, vice president and chief research and development officer at Hershey Co., said in a statement: “Whether it’s creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3-D printing.”

Hershey’s isn’t the first company to flirt with 3-D printed chocolate. “A 3-D printer capable of printing chocolate objects called the ChefJet was introduced at the International CES consumer electronics show this month,” reports the Times. That printer “starts at $5,000″ and is expected to be on the market later this year.

3-D printer chocolate means chocolate on demand. Like, forever. Once it’s available, we can just go ahead and assume that the world will be a much gooier happier place. Has anyone looked into 3-D printing color safe bleach? Stain resistant clothing? And what about those heart-shaped boxes? I get the feeling we’re going to see a lot more Valentine’s Days in a calendar year. Guys, take note. Call Hershey’s. The world needs this.
