China’s Defense Minister visits Mozambique


nsnbc : The Minister of Defense of the People’s Republic of China, Chang WanQuann, is starting a visit to Mozambique on Monday. He will be welcomed by his Mozambican counterpart, Atanásio Salvador M’Tumuke, with whom he will review aspects of bilateral cooperation.

China_Defence Minister Chang WanQuann_2017_(archives)On Tuesday, after his arrival Monday, WanQuann and his delegation will visit the Ministry of Defence, where talks will take place between the two delegations with the aim of strengthening the historical ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as defining new areas of cooperation.

Chang Wanquan, Han nationality, is a native of Nanyang City of Henan Province. He was born in 1949, joined the PLA in March 1968 and joined the CPC in same year later. Chang was a student of Long-Distance Education Program of Weinan Specialized Teachers School of Shaanxi Province and graduated in 1987. He was promoted to Major General in July 1997, Lieutenant General in 2003 and General in 2007. He was a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.

Chang Wanquan was a member of the 17th CPC Central Committee and a Member of the 17th CPC Central Military Commission. He served as Director of General Armaments Department (GAD) of the PLA from 2007 to 2012. He is now a member of the 18th CPC Central Committee and a member of the 18th CPC Central Military Commission. In 2013 he became Minister of the Ministry of National Defense; State Councillor of State Council.
