Francisco police and public works crews dismantled a Financial District encampment early Thursday that had been occupied for nearly a week by activists protesting economic inequality.

Protesters with the group Occupy SF said about 80 officers wearing riot helmets confronted 200 campers and their supporters at about 12:45 a.m. The officers guarded city workers who removed tents, lean-tos, sleeping bags and other belongings from outside the Federal Reserve Bank building at 101 Market St. near Main Street.

One protester was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer.

And even though what the cops did is uconstitutional,the protesters ,it looks like disbursed peacfully,when if they wanted to get nasty? The Houston Mayor said people can stay overnight IF they had NO TENTS, NO FIRES, NO PUBLIC URINATION. Tents go to far, a sleeping bag and tarp should be all you need. Also this action (by the city) may be the first to try and incite violence from protesters. Be safe.

  Sadly most of those who say they don’t want “capitalism”, are rejecting what we now have thinking it is capitalism, when in fact it is corporatism. In order to have capitalism, we would need to have capital, something of value. All we now have is Federal Reserve notes, which represent DEBT. Far from a “free” market, the game is rigged.
  
  Still I am sure there are those, like in the movie Shawshank Redemption, who have become so dependent on the system, they truly do not wish to be free, and only complain about their conditions in captivity. City ordinances only apply to city employees and city contractors, not private citizens, and you don’t need a permit to SERVE food, you need a permit to SELL food.
