The protests were held outside the US consulate in the city which is the capital of the North Sumatra province on Monday.

“We condemn the film that insults the Prophet Mohammed, and which is hurtful to Muslims around the world. Crush America,” a protester told the crowd.

Elsewhere in the capital, Jakarta, the Indonesian police officers used teargas and water canon to disperse hundreds of demonstrators outside the US embassy.

A policeman was injured and several protesters were detained during the demonstration.

The sacrilegious film also triggered massive protests outside the US embassy in the capital on Friday and Saturday, with angry demonstrators citing the film as a declaration of war.

On Thursday, Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono denounced the blasphemous movie that insults the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and depicts Islam as an oppressive religion.
