Iran backs Iraqi talks on referendum: FM spokesman

IRNA – Iran is interested in mediating between Iraqi Kurdistan region and Baghdad on the issue of referendum, Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman said on Monay.

Iran supports the talks already started between Iraq’a Irbil and Baghdad, and hopes that the negotiations will result in positive outcomes, Bahram Qasemi said in his weekly press briefing.

Iran’s stances on Iraq’s national integrity and sovereignty, as well as the Iraqi Kurdistan’s referendum has been announced earlier, he added, expressing hope that ‘the wisdom and prudence of the players in the region would prevent the current sophisticated situation from becoming more complex in this sensitive spot of the world.’

‘Islamic Republic of Iran, given the good ties it has with Iraqi Kurds, federal government and other groups and figures in the country, will do his best to prevent destructive, dangerous crises,’ Qasemi said.
