Occupation destroys 24 homes, leaving 134 Pals homeless

Days of Palestine, West Bank –Israeli occupation forces destroyed on Tuesday 24 Palestinian homes, leaving 134 Palestinians homeless in Massafer Yatta, southern Wet Bank city of Al-Khalil.

Israeli occupation sources said that the Palestinian homes due to lack of Israeli-issued building permits. However, some of the homes were built before the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

UN said that 134 Palestinians, including 69 children, were displaced as a result of the Israeli demolition of these Palestinian homes.

As of Tuesday morning, all of the affected families have remained in the area near the rubble of their homes in extremely precarious conditions.

The homes are located in Massafer Yatta area of southernAl-Khalil, which in the 1980s the Israeli occupation army declared closed for military training (Firing Zone 918).

Based on this declaration, the Israeli authorities have been seeking to illegally remove all or most of the 1,300 people living in 12 communities located in this area.

In 1999, the Israeli military evicted most of the residents from the area and destroyed or confiscated most of their properties; they were allowed to return a few months later, following an interim injunction by the Israeli Supreme Court.

The UN Secretary-General has stated that the eviction of Palestinians from this area “would appear to amount to individual and mass forcible transfer, contrary to Israeli obligations under international humanitarian law.

“It also appears to amount to forced evictions contrary to Israeli obligations under international human rights law.”
