THE teenager killed in an apparent murder-suicide has been identified as a 14-year-old girl.

Sidonie Thomson, known as “Sid” to her friends, was found dead in the family home that she shared with her parents and 12-year-old brother at Paddington in Brisbane’s inner-west.

Police believe the girl’s death was linked to the death of a 48-year-old woman on the Story Bridge during this morning’s rush hour. The woman was believed to be the girl’s mother.

Police said the woman had “fallen” from the bridge after abandoning a car on the cross-river route around 6.45am. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A boy aged 12 witnessed the “fall” from the car. He was taken to hospital, it is believed he did not suffer any serious injuries.

Police were called to a house on Carrington Street, Paddington shortly after 7am today where they located the body of the 14-year-old, who attended the day and boarding school Somerville House in Brisbane’s south.

Neighbours reported hearing screams coming from the home at about 6.30am.

A crime scene was declared and detectives have been scouring the property for most of the day.

An undertaker’s vehicle arrived to take away the girl’s body at about 3pm.

“Early investigations have indicated that both incidents may be linked but we haven’t been able to confirm that at this stage, (however) there’s strong indications that both the incidents are linked,” Detective Inspector Tony Duncan said.

“There was a witness not to the incident but who had located the deceased teenager and they’ve contacted the police some time before seven,” he said.

Somerville House School Principal Florence Kearney said the school was deeply saddened by the events of this morning.

“Naturally our thoughts are with the family at this time. We uphold them in our prayers,” she said.

“The student involved was friendly, engaging, highly involved in our wider school program, well respected and very popular with staff and students and she’ll be sadly missed.’’

Mrs Kearney said the 14 year-old was very musical.

“She’s been highly involved in our music program,” she said.

“She’s actually had a long association with the school having started here with the junior school a number of years ago.”

Mrs Kearney said there would be memorial service held and counselling provided for other students.
