Anti-Gaddafi fighters have been pushing towards the dictator’s hometown of Sirte, despite having extended a deadline for the city’s surrender.
Officials from the National Transition Council say they are in no rush to assault loyalist-held Sirte and are keen to take control of the city without bloodshed.
Leader of the NTC, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, announced on Friday that the deadline had been extended beyond Saturday and would now last another week.
But fighters are gathering at nearby towns in case an attack is needed, with brigades pushing to the town of Wadi Hawarah, just 30 miles away.
