Afghan tribal leader killed in mosque

Gunmen opened fire on Haji Mohammad as he was saying prayers in a mosque in Ghazni’s Andar district.

The assailants managed to escape from the scene.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the killing of the tribal leader, but the Taliban is believed to be behind the attack.

Last week, people in Andar launched a campaign against the Taliban and killed and captured more than 25 members of the militant group.

Afghan police also blamed the group for a rocket attack that targeted a market in Ghazni’s provincial capital, which is called the same name.

Seven people were injured in the strike that saw four artillery shells land at the market.
