Afghanistan blames Pakistan’s intelligence agency for Kabul suicide attack

Two men had been arrested, including one from Nangarhar province who was paid
10,000 Pakistani rupees (£70) to bring two suicide attackers to Kabul.

“One attacker blew himself up, the second fled the area,” Mr Aloko
said.

He said the two arrested men both confessed and the case was now closed.

The horrifying scenes after the blast made front pages around the world after
a young girl was photographed screaming and surrounded by the bodies of her
family
.

Tarana Akbari, 12, lost seven relatives including her little brother, and had
another eight wounded.

The explosion happened at the entrance to the Abul Fazl shrine in the Murad
Khane area of the Afghan capital.

At the time, Mr Karzai heightened tensions with neighbouring Pakistan by
threatening to pursue the attack with Islamabad.

Since the fall of the Taliban, Afghanistan has been largely spared the
Sunni-Shia targeted sectarian killing seen in Pakistan and Iraq. Shia
leaders appealed for calm after the bombing.

Mr Aloko said. “The case is closed for us now. We have completed our
investigation, and the case will be sent to the court.”
