Al Saud ally to Western colonialism

“The United States is fostering proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East by stoking crises in this region and supporting terrorist groups, and this approach shows Al Saud’s subservience to the White House,” Mansour Haqiqatpour said on Wednesday.

Referring to the ongoing crisis in Syria, the lawmaker noted that some reactionary Arab countries are trying to put obstacles on the way of talks between the Syrian government and its opponents.

Haqiqatpour also pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s request for supplying Syria militants with heavy weapons and presence of the United States in the Middle East will further steer the region towards war and unrest.

The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed.

Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals. The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the armed groups.

On January 30, the head of the Syrian opposition coalition Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib announced that he is ready for “direct discussions” with representatives of the Syrian government in Cairo, Tunis or Istanbul.

However, he added that there are “basic conditions” before holding talks with the Syrian officials over the crisis in the Arab country. The so-called Syrian National Coalition and other foreign-backed opposition groups had stressed in the past that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must step down before any negotiations.
