Muammar Gaddafi’s apparent death from wounds received during the fall of Sirte means a long and complex trial that could have divided Libya and embarrassed Western governments and oil firms will be avoided.
A senior National Transitional Council (TNC) military official said the former Libyan leader died after capture having earlier been injured in a NATO airstrike on a convoy fleeing the town. Earlier reports and rumours of his capture had sparked celebrations across Libya and helped oil prices lower.
Had he been taken alive, there would have been potentially acrimonious debate over whether he should be tried in Libya or extradited to the International Criminal Court, which issued a warrant for his arrest along with his oldest son and spy chief earlier this year.
Any trial might have given the flamboyant, often idiosyncratic Gaddafi a podium from which to harang both Libya’s new rulers and Western powers, as well as potentially try to embarrass them on issues they would rather forget. As Libya was nudged back from international isolation in the last decade, international oil companies signed deals worth billions.

At least his death was heroic. he didn’t surrender and kept on being in the battle field. this was a crime and an injustice. why do people have to be so cruel? how long do people live in this world? why do people commit such a horrible crime in their short life span? this man didn’t do anything to the west. well, what goes around comes around. may he rest in peace.

Don’t forget all those tons of gold that will conveniently “Ft Knox.”
I seem to remember just a few years ago Gaddaffi was in NYC trying to pitch his tent on top of a 5 star hotel and meeting with top US officials. He had his golden parachute and his body doubles. Lately everything our government does reads like a cheap pro-wrestling script.

As opposed to a quality pro-wrestling script. Some things just can’t exist.
Today, with this news I am saddened. It further erodes hope that the people will win against the monstrous and demonic west – the bloodsuckers.
The people of Libya will live to regret his death.
I am hopeful though, that his sons and others will fight the warring dogs until they are chased out of their country.

I believe they got him. At least he was alive and not a 9 year old dead guy.
You can’t claim everything is fake because you then lose credibility on what you say.
They got him but just a matter of if they finished him off or he died from the wounds but we wil never know. He looks pretty messed up in the pictures and videos.
