Annie Swynnerton’s Allegorical, Figure and Portrait Paintings

Annie Louisa Robinson Swynnerton (1844–1933) was an English painter who mainly painted people, both real and fictional. She matriculated at the Manchester School of Art, Académie Julian, and also studied in Rome. Famous artist John Singer Sargent took a liking to her work and assisted Annie in becoming the first woman member who was elected at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1922. Most of her works can be found in England and Scotland, though some are also featured around the world. Her husband was sculptor Joseph Swynnerton.
