‘Anti-Iran sanctions targeting people’

“These sanctions are more economic in nature to transfer the pressure to the people and the enemy has certainly reached the conclusion that physical confrontation with the Islamic Republic will have no result,” Qasemi said on Saturday.

Qasemi added that although the enemies may cause problems for the development of the country’s oil industry with regards to cost and time, “But they will never succeed in keeping us from achieving our goals.”

Commenting on international oil markets, the Iranian oil minister said some countries that follow US policies are making every effort to prevent the sales of Iranian crude.

He said Oil Ministry employees are on the economic war front, adding that Iran has many methods for selling the country’s crude in international markets.

On July 1, the US-engineered EU sanctions against Iran’s oil and financial sectors came into effect.

The illegal sanctions prevent all EU member states from purchasing Iran’s oil or extending insurance coverage for tankers carrying Iranian crude.

In an article published on the Press TV website, prominent international lawyer Dr. Franklin Lamb wrote there are “ample solid legal” grounds that Iran can use to lodge a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the US-led sanctions.

“The US-led sanctions violate international humanitarian law due to their negative effects on Iran’s civilian populations,” he said.
