Anti-US demo held in NW Pakistan

The protesters called on the government to quit its alliance with the United States in the so-called war on terror.

“While the defeat of US forces in Afghanistan is in sight, our parliament is reviewing its alliance with the US and making ways to reopen NATO supplies routs. We are warning the government we will launch a countrywide movement and mobilize people to come out and stop the supplies by force,” a protester told Press TV.

The demonstrators also condemned Washington’s intervention in their country’s domestic affairs.

The protest, organized by Pakistan’s largest politico-religious party Jamaat-e-Islami, was symbolically staged in Abbottabad where the US said its forces killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden last May.

The attack was considered as a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty by the US.

Chanting anti-US slogans, the protestors accused the Pakistani government of following pro-American policies.

Participants in the rally said America’s increasing intervention constitutes the root cause of major problems in Pakistan.

Leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami party also called on Islamabad to cut off all forms of relations with the US, thereby ending the American interference in the country’s internal affairs.

The protest was part of the party’s widespread campaign against the expected restoration of supplies to US-led forces in Afghanistan.

The strategic supply routes have been closed down since last November when US-led airstrikes killed 24 Pakistani troops, sparking massive anti-US protests across the Asian country.
