Appeal lodged by Puddy murderer

Lawyers for convicted murderer Cameron Mansell have lodged crucial documents in court, hours before the final deadline to allow his appeal to proceed.

Mansell is serving a minimum 18-year sentence for the murder of multi-millionaire businessman Craig Puddy, who has been missing since May 2010.

A judge had granted Mansell a 56-day extension to file the appeal paperwork by Tuesday afternoon, or have the matter dismissed.

During his trial, Mansell, who worked at a bar part-owned by Mr Puddy, denied he had killed his employer because he had confronted him about stealing money.

His lawyers had argued that Mansell was at Mr Puddy’s home when three thugs entered the house and killed Mr Puddy over a drug debt, and that framed Mansell for the murder.

After an eight-week trial, a jury found Mansell guilty of the murder. He was sentenced in November last year.
