Armed groups kill 15 Syrian soldiers

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday dozens of other soldiers were wounded in several villages of al-Hafa region in Latakia.

The new death toll came one day after the observatory group announced that more than 100 Syrian soldiers were killed in clashes and attacks on security forces’ checkpoints across the country over the weekend.

Also on Tuesday, the Syrian government expelled a number of US and European diplomats in response to the expulsion of Syrian ambassadors from their countries.

Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi said the ambassadors of the US, Britain, France, Turkey, Canada, Spain and Italy are no longer welcome in the country.

Syria has been the scene of ongoing violence since March 2011. Many people, including security forces, have lost their lives in the unrest.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing the protesters.

But Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, stating that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
