BEN Cousins has been charged with possession of cannabis and a smoking implement in his car after being pulled over by police early Tuesday.

Police pulled over the 33-year-old former AFL star about 7.30am on a street in the Perth suburb of North Beach and found a small amount of cannabis and a smoking implement in his vehicle.

He will be summonsed for possessing cannabis and a smoking implement.

A WA Police spokesman refused to say which North Beach street Cousins had been arrested on but PerthNow has reliable information to suggest it was outside his home on Arnott Street.

A witness described seeing unmarked police cars outside Cousins’ house this morning, as officers searched his car for about an hour while the WA football legend looked on.

One police vehicle was stopped in front of Cousins’ car, which was parked on the verge, and another behind it.

It is not known if Cousins’ partner Maylea Tinecheff or baby son were inside the house at the time.

PerthNow understands that plain-clothes police went in and out of Cousins’ home several times in between conducting searches of his vehicle, with Cousins fully cooperating while neighbours looked on.

An onlooker said Cousins was wearing black leather pants and a tan jacket.

“It made me think they had followed him home from somewhere,” the witness told PerthNow.

Cousins will be summonsed to appear in court for possessing cannabis and a smoking implement over today’s alleged offence.

The charges come just three weeks after the former West Coast Eagle was arrested at Esperance Airport for possessing methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.

Police will allege the drug was found hidden inside Cousins’ rectum on March 27.
