British PM Cameron urged to resign

Cameron was urged to resign by the UK bakers’ union BFAWU president Ian Hodson, whom also called on lay activists to take to the streets against austerity in October, British media reported.

Hodson was speaking at the opening day of the union’s annual conference in Bridlington on Sunday, when he was repeatedly applauded as he lambasted the austerity agenda unleashed by the coalition government.

“The way this government has attacked the sick and elderly is vindictive and hypocritical”, he told union delegates, adding that “cancer sufferers are having their benefits cut. It is a disgrace.”

“We want you to be there on streets of London on October 22 for the (Trade Union Congress) TUC demonstration,” said Hodson.

“David Cameron, we don’t want the cuts. If you had any shred of decency you would apologise and resign”, he added.

“We will be on the streets to demand change. We want change in policy. Let’s tax the bankers”, said the union’s authority, noting “we are fair but we will not be bullied. We are here and fighting back – solidarity.”
