British soldier killed in Afghan war

The grenade explosion killed the British soldier from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards while he was patrolling in the Nahr-e Saraj district in Helmand Province.

The soldier’s name was not released but the ministry says his family has been informed.

According to official figures released by the website icasualties.org, the latest death brings to 418 the number of British soldiers killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the Asian country in 2001.

On Wednesday, two US-led soldiers with the International Security Assistance Force were killed in the country’s troubled south.

Also on Tuesday, two separate roadside bombs killed two foreign forces in southern Afghanistan.

The rising death toll for the US-led forces has increased anger in the US and other countries contributing to the prolonged war in Afghanistan.
