The UK government has banned self-defense expert and former US Navy Seal Tim Larkin from entering the country after Larkin planned to hold seminars instructing people how to protect themselves against rioters and criminals.

“Tim Larkin tried to board a plane from his home in Las Vegas on Tuesday, but was given a UK Border Agency letter saying “his presence here was not conducive to the public good,” reports BBC News.

The banning order reflects how the coalition government is continuing the previous Labour Party’s policy of discouraging British citizens from using any kind of self-defense whatsoever given the fact that private ownership of firearms is all but completely outlawed.

Larkin was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at The Martial Arts Show conference in Birmingham and to hold a seminar in Tottenham, two areas hit by violence during last year’s riots. Unlike many methods of so-called “self-defense,” Larkin’s program actually teaches (shock, horror), methods on how to incapacitate an attacker.

Larkin told BBC Radio 4 that the banning order was a “gross over-reaction” and said the real reason behind it was because he had publicly criticized the country’s laws on self-defense, which are ambiguous at best and leave victims completely vulnerable to criminals.

The notion that Larkin may have been banned from entering Britain primarily because he has been critical of the country’s laws on self-defense is plausible given the fact that others like radio talk show host Michael Savage have also been banned for holding controversial political opinions.

People in the UK who have used force to protect their property against home invasions by criminals have themselves been on the receiving end of legal retribution, despite the fact that both common law and the Criminal Law Act 1967 both allow citizens to act in ways which would otherwise be illegal to prevent injury to oneself or others.

A landmark case occurred in 1999 when farmer Tony Martin shot at two burglars who had broken into his remote farmhouse, killing one and injuring the other. Despite the fact that Martin had been the victim of burglaries numerous times before with little help from the police, in addition to the lengthy criminal record of the burglars, Martin was convicted for murder because a jury found that he had gone beyond using “reasonable force”. The conviction was later reduced to manslaughter on appeal.

Martin was released after serving three years of his sentence on account of good behavior. He was later targeted with death threats by associates of the burglar he injured. During the case, Martin became a cause célèbre for Brits who felt the government and the legal system had sided with criminals in eviscerating the ancient common law right that dictates, “An Englishman’s home is his castle.”

Banning Tim Larkin from entering the United Kingdom is yet another example of how the establishment is terrified that citizens might learn skills which would reduce their dependency on the authorities.

The only conclusion to draw from this is that the government wants its citizens to be weak, cowardly victims who are incapable of fighting back against any form of abuse or intimidation so that the state itself can continue to dominate and oppress a mentally castrated and domesticated population.

The article is strange to you because it is bullshit. That dude was banned because he in an NRA gun advocate and his attitudes are devisive for the UK. He comes with right wing teabagger style baggage.

The UK is not a ‘shithole’ and people are treated equally and criminals are punished severely when thehave been tried in a court of law.

The gun laws are strict in the uk because we have different historical conditions than the US. We should not ape you Yanks especially when you are actually apes! Lol!

The UK is the land of the SAS and many are martial arts trainers. You can train in the most lethal forms if you wish but it is a regulated process and the trainers careful about whom the teach.

You forgot to bring up how it was Americans during WWI that climbed over the trench walls while the Brits hid in them like the cowards they were and are and advanced the line pushing Germany back while they kept falling back until our country got involved.

You also forgot to mention who it was that stormed the beaches of France during WWII while the majority British soldiers stayed home with their thumbs up their asses. Again that was the Americans.

Then there was the fact the RAF during WWII were too chickenshit to bomb Germany and strategic Nazi targets except under the cover of darkness when they couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn even if they carpet bombed every square inch of the field it was in.

Americans have been used as cannon fodder to save their sorry asses for almost 100 years now and you’d think instead of this small island inbred contempt for us they have, they would show some gratitude.

Oh wait, these are the same people who think a German family has the right to the British throne because the Windsor family is German and was in league with Hitler. I like many others out here would love to see you get in our faces and call us cowardly weaklings. When you have the Atlantic Ocean between you and us you talk a tough game but I bet you would be singing another tune if you were face to face with any of us.

Our having guns stopped the tyrannical rule of King George III in the colonies. Our having guns stopped the Redcoats from indiscriminately murdering innocent civilians like during the Boston Massacre. Our having guns stopped poor King George the spoil sport from trying to reinstate his tyrannical rule during the War of 1812 after we kicked his Redcoats out already once.

I have been around firearms my whole life and no one in my family shoots at people for looking funny at them and then asks questions later, and neither have I.

Now for the record, the SAS and other British soldiers have committed more disgusting acts against the Afghan and Iraqi people the US soldiers. Like how about the fact when SAS were caught dressed as insurgents shooting innocent people and blowing cars and building up, which got them arrested by Iraqi police, more SAS stormed the police station murdered every police officer in cold blood and blew up the building. This is a matter of record.

So before you condemn Americans, I suggest you look inwardly at home and deal with your own affairs before opening your mouth about another’s affairs!

The historical context you try to refer to as to why nearly all firearms are banned in the UK you have absolutely no clue about!

It is a matter of historical fact and record the reason why firearms have received more and more restrictions eventually leading to their being banned in your country has to do with the nobles and royals. They made sure firearms were banned because after the American Revolution, or as you call it still there the War of Insurrection, there was a fear the people in England would do the same as the former colonies.

It is also a fact that criminals are treated better under the law then those who try to defend themselves against those who try to steal from them or wish harm on them.

This is someone with a college degree in history bringing up those facts. So I hate to break it to you but I know more about the history of your own country then you do.

The SAS are over rated for your information. US Special Forces, SEALs, and other specialized units from this country receive more training then members of the SAS. They are also barred from using their self defense training because your government has decided to claim they are lethal weapons. If an SAS officer were to defend himself, family, or property, he would end up rotting in a prison for many years. The same is true with anyone who has significant martial arts or self defense training.

Before you open your mouth, I suggest you have at least half a clue in regards to what you are talking about.

We have some of that type of stuff going on here but nearly like the UK. Someone trained in martial arts can still defend themselves while in the UK they are barred to do so. It had been black belts having to register here for quite a decades now but I didn’t know they now have brown belts doing it. So I guess my senior citizen mother who is a brown belt in a form of Judo has to register herself now and is in violation of the law, unless that varies state to state.

US Navy SEALs are pretty good, just a notch below the French Foreign Legion. The SAS don’t really get into specific hand to hand combat training, relying mostly on the School of hard knocks. i.e. if you need specific training in this area, then chances are you wouldn’t get past selection anyways.

Somewhat on point, I am fixing to move to an area with a very substantial population of bears. I have no intention of shooting one other than in self defense.

What is my point? Guns sometimes serve a useful purpose whether dealing with bears, criminals, or a tyranny. A population without guns is helpless relative to all these things.

Further, guns serve a purpose with respect to exterior threats also. My guess is that the UK and the US both took far more casualties as a result of an armed population in Iraq and Afghanistan and Somolia and nearly everywhere else rather than from any organized military.

If someone ever invades UK in the future, which by the way is historically inevitable it being more a matter of when than if, UK will be much, much weaker if disarmed.

Living in the UK (Scotland), I don’t have to worry that when I leave the house, I don’t have to worry to much about burglary, race riots, assualt with a firearm or mugging etc. The number of fire arm related deaths in Scotland including suicide each year is less than around 5-10. I don’t have to worry to much about Police brutality, I don’t have to worry about armed Police with IQs less than 90. Crime for example in the Kingdom of Fife has halved in the last 7 years.

Owning a legal firearm in the UK requires a Fire Arms Certificate (FAC). So firearms are not banned legally (except for concealed pistols and revolvers), they are just not very fashionable because they are not required for self defense. There are at least 3 Gun shops within 15 miles. So in this respect the article is quite misleading.

Why this fellow was not allowed into the UK may have some other reasoning behind it. He is I believe, according to his own website involved in training US Government paramilitary units within the US itself. It is no big deal anyway simply because the idea that self defense classes and training is unavailable in the UK is a ridiculous notion anyway. These are usually the haunt of the ‘Walter’.

The Police in the UK do not normally carry guns, they are in effect unarmed, like the the majority of the UK population.

There are two mindsets, which apply to the ownership of guns and even knifes. Both are just tools. But the purchase of guns and knifes have two main drivers for civilian populations, for sporting use and for defensive use. In this part of the world, going back even into the historic records, folks have been more interested in Golf, than firearms and knifes or even archery for defensive use.

Guns don’t equate freedom, if they did then just look at the middle east and other parts of the world where guns are used defensively daily i.e. Mexico and Central America and even the USA (which is rapidly losing its freedoms). The whole gun debate on this thread is really only an American political football. What is appalling is the recent Fast and Furious debacle. The reality of American politicians using the distribution of firearms to destabilize another country bordering the US in the so called ‘Drug war’, which the recent consequent rise in murder and mayhem in the states bordering Mexico, just to score political points in the gun issue is absolutely astounding.

Traditionally the UK is usually 10-20 years behind the effects of the US culture of violence (Hollywood and US Television crime drama showing constant drip drip effect of gun related murder, rape and pillage and Gansta Rap etc which is par for the course in these media shows). London might be only a few years behind. Restriction of folks who propose Extreme Self Defense, which advocate going beyond the UK laws of Self defense is only right if only to protect those who could be potentially be facing a murder or manslaughter charge for those who listen to these lectures rather then understanding the Law in the UK with regard to self defense.
Frankly this is a loss for the UK not for Larkin.

They have tried, convicted and sentenced him for a “thought crime” really. His thoughts were too dangerous!

The BBC is portraying the reason why he was banned is because he teaches violent self defense. Is there any other kind. In order to defend ones self after all, it is necessary to use violence. I guess the UK version of self defense is like how the Bobbies used to be when confronting criminals, “Stop, or I will say stop again!”.
