Bulli rapist will be released from prison

The man known as the Bulli rapist will walk free from prison on Thursday after spending 22 years behind bars.

Terry John Williamson sexually assaulted 10 women and girls, and an 11-year-old boy.

As a young man, he terrorised the community of Bulli, on the NSW south coast, for 10 months in 1989 and 1990, and used a police radio scanner to avoid detection.

He was convicted of 19 charges relating to the sexual assault of 10 females between the ages of five and 43, and the boy.

The 42-year-old was granted parole by the State Parole Authority in January after serving almost 22 years of a 24-year sentence.

He had been denied parole every year since 2004, before the parole board determined he should be released and that he be monitored in the community with only two years remaining of his sentence.

Williamson must comply with 42 parole conditions including electronic monitoring, drug and alcohol testing, anti-libido medication and staying away from his victims and the Illawarra Region.

A victims’ support organisation has argued Williamson should have been jailed for life.
