Cambodia court orders release of Khmer Rouge ‘First Lady’
Telegraph – Cambodia’s UN-backed genocide court will release Ieng Thirith in the next 24 hours, after it stated it was likely that she was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and that there was no prospect of the 80-year-old being tried “in the foreseeable future”. Mrs Ieng, the sister-in-law of Pol Pot was arrested in 2007 and charged with crimes against humanity for her role in the brutal Khmer Rouge regime led by Pol Pot, but had denied any wrongdoing.
