Can War Stop War? Campaign Asks People To Join In Spreading The Message Of Peace This Christmas

On the weekend following Friday, November 13th, 2015, the world united in supporting the people of Paris by temporarily updating their profile picture with the colours of the French flag. 130 innocent people died that day.

As Christmas fast approaches, we would like to ask you to now unite in supporting the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims who are being persecuted both in the Middle East and the West, and in remembering all those who are subject to war and persecution, as well as the brave people around the world who are devoting their energies to helping them.

War is not just happening in Europe and Syria. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been bombing the Arab world’s poorest country, Yemen, with full US support, killing thousands of civilians and creating another humanitarian crisis. (source) In Palestine, occupation by the powerful military state of Israel, armed and supported by the West, is resulting in “an impoverished, stateless and displaced people.” (source)

Meanwhile, the EU and Islamic Relief UK now warn that thousands of refugees will freeze to death as winter sets in. (source) (source)

It all seems overwhelming, but here in the West, this time of year signifies peace on Earth and good will to all. Let us remember that we are not alone in caring. Changing a Facebook profile picture may seem too small a gesture to make a difference, but this is not true. Whole revolutions have been instigated with the help of social media. Governments are fully aware of the change that can be created when we unify.

This global Facebook campaign is about reminding each other that we are not alone, and that together we are strong.

Join in making a clear statement to the governments of the world that we are all members of the human race, and we will never support their wars.

As the Dalai Lama says: “War is neither glamorous nor attractive. It is monstrous. Its very nature is one of tragedy and suffering.” (source)
