Police are investigating a Geelong Cats AFL footballer over an alleged assault, the club has confirmed.
The Cats player became “the subject of a complaint” on Friday, the Geelong Cats Football Club said in a brief statement on Saturday.
“Given that the matter is being investigated by the police, the club, its players and officials are not in position to make any comment until such time as the police investigation and any subsequent events arising out of the investigation have been concluded,” the club’s statement said.
A police spokeswoman could only confirm that a 21-year-old man had been arrested on Friday and released pending further investigation.
“Police were called to an … address just after 7am yesterday (Friday) morning regarding an alleged assault,” she said.
No charges have been laid at this time.
