Child prostitution ring ran for 2 years

Two sisters preyed on at least seven vulnerable children before prostituting them for as little as $10 to men in cars and motel rooms in Sydney, police say.

Police allege the girls, aged from 12 to 16, were runaways, living rough, or came from troubled families. They were offered drugs by the women as an inducement to service clients older than 50, police say.

“These are children that have been abused and manipulated,” Liverpool local area commander Ray King told reporters on Thursday.

“We don’t know how they will be in 20 years. It’s quite traumatic.

“It’s probably an underbelly of our society today that this type of issue or offence can occur.”

More victims and customers were probably involved in the child prostitution ring that police believe ran for two years.

Superintendent King said he expected more arrests and urged any more victims to come forward.

Detectives from Strike Force Woodvale arrested the sisters, aged 19 and 22, in dawn raids on Thursday at their home in Warwick Farm, in Sydney’s southwest.

They also raided four homes at Canley Vale, Cabramatta West, Northmead and Chester Hill and arrested three men aged from 51 to 53.

Police expect to charge the five people in a Sydney court on Friday.

They will allege the sisters contacted their clients by phone and were often where the sexual acts took place.

One of the sisters was charged in March with offences relating to prostituting two girls and was eventually granted bail.

She was also charged with robbing a customer of $500 and a mobile phone after he met up with one of the girls for sex.

A public plea in March and further investigations by Woodvale detectives led to Thursday’s arrests and more victims coming forward.

A police source told AAP there was no connection between the three men or between them and the sisters.

The sisters allegedly used their own contacts to locate the victims, he said.

“They obviously became exposed to these girls through their background,” the investigating police officer said.

Police will also allege the sisters offered the girls drugs.

“As part of the manipulation to arrange these girls, prohibited drugs were a factor,” he said.
