Namjou said Sunday that Tehran has reached an agreement with Beijing allowing China to finance the projects for building and renovating irrigation and drainage networks in the downstream sections of dams in Iran, Mehr news agency reported.
Last month, Iran canceled a USD 2-billion contract for a Chinese firm to help build a hydroelectric dam in the country.
Namjou said that the move came after the Central Bank of Iran rejected the financial package proposed by the Chinese.
In March 2011, China’s Sinohydro Corp. signed a deal with Iranian hydro firm Farab to build the dam, described as the world’s tallest, in the western province of Lorestan. It was designed to support a 1,500-megawatt power station.
