A powerful explosion has rocked a US military base in eastern Afghanistan and reportedly killed at least 27 American soldiers and left dozens wounded.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the deadly attack, saying the huge explosion left at least 27 American troops killed and 34 others wounded, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The incident occurred early Thursday when a truck bomb went off inside the US military base in Gardez city, the capital of Afghanistan’s Paktia province.

According to the Taliban spokesman, the truck contained hundreds of kilos of explosives.

Witnesses say the explosion was very powerful and a US helicopter was also destroyed in the blast.

American forces in Afghanistan have been experiencing their deadliest days since the beginning of August.

On August 6, at least 31 US Special Forces were killed after Taliban militants shot down an American helicopter belonging to NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Wardak.

The death toll was the biggest in a single incident for foreign forces since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001.

In another attack on August 11, ISAF said in a statement that six US-led soldiers lost their lives following the explosion of a roadside bomb in volatile southern Afghanistan.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign forces in the war-torn country.

The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

  1. There you go, you can’t fight a covert war overtly. The only way these soldiers will come home is in a box.

“Chalk” this one up to the four star clowns sitting on their asses in the Pentagon. Who conducts war this way?

Who is responsible for command and control? Who is the military “dumb ass” that allowed this? Who are the so called strategists and tacticians who allowed this? Where is the security at when its needed?

The four star clowns allowed this to happen. Why? because they are not made of the same material as a G.S. Patton, Omar Bradly D. MacArthur or any one else.

They were “groomed” by TPTB to sit on their asses and conduct operations thousands of miles from the action. They too, need to be removed. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the fallen.

The base security is contracted out to the lowest bidder. Here in Iraq it is SOC and all are Ugandan. In Afghanistan that security company provides Ghurkas. My question is how did this truck pass muster at the Entry Control Point (ECP). As tame as Iraq is at the moment, all vehicles are visually inspected inside and out and bomb sniffing dogs are run thru the vehicles. I guess I will find out at the end of Sept, when I head for Kabul.

Lots and lots of “Four star clowns” and one star and two star and three star and uddles of full birds. A lot of careers have been made just standing around the drinking fountain in the Pentagon. You wouldn’t have caught Maj Gen Smedly Butler (“War is a racket”) schmoozing around the drinking-hole with these careerist, nor Gen Chesty Puller.

Louis B. “Chesty” Puller quoted saying “Any woman out of the rack, is out of her MOS.”
Butler and Puller are two of the best examples of Marine Corps Officers. Today’s zero’s have a long way to go to reach their plateau. Semper Fi.

    Agree captain .
They will need many more soldiers to guard the opium farms .. they turned the US military into some kind of private security for the elite ..
The sad part is that most people in America have no idea how defeated America is .. America lost the war a long time ago yet some racist blood sucking white trash still insist on fighting this lost cause .
if the soldiers don’t say enough is enough and leave the service then i think they deserve what they get ..
My question is : the killing of American soldiers is a daily event in Afghanistan , but why are we hearing about more now ?

  6. USA!

    USA!

    USA!

  7. Well, according to the Taliban the number of US soldiers killed is 94 and 122 injured , they said the man who carried out the attack was a 70 year old grand father who lost his only son three months a go when the US bombed his home , they said he drove a truck loaded with 7 tons of explosives that destroyed many buildings in the compound including 2 choppers ?//
