Committal starts over Jazzy O murder

A man accused of murdering Melbourne prostitute Jazzy O admitted that he had once had sex with her, a court has heard.

Steve Constantinou, 48, is accused of murdering stripper and prostitute Johanna Martin on October 11 last year.

Ms Martin had approached a family friend of Constantinou asking if he could lend Constantinou between $10,000 and $12,000, a pre-trial committal hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday.

Ms Martin told the family friend, Nicholas Galanakis, that Constantinou had outstanding fines and he faced going to jail if he did not pay them.

Constantinou told Mr Galanakis that he and Ms Martin would meet up and have hot chocolate, Mr Galanakis told the court.

He said when Constantinou was asked if he was having sex with Ms Martin, who he called Honey, he admitted that he had sex with her once.

After Ms Martin, 65, was found dead Mr Galanakis and some people he had worked with ribbed Constantinou over the telephone about whether he was involved in her death.

Constantinou replied “ha, ha, very funny”.

Ms Martin’s body was found bound and wrapped in a blanket in Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne.

The hearing is expected to run for four days.
