CopBlocking can be a lot of things. To me CopBlocking is not only about filming police, but maintaining a lifestyle that promotes accountability for one’s self and one’s community. The idea that “badges don’t grant extra rights” not only applies to police overreach and brutality, but the idea that we are all human beings that should treat each other accordingly.
I have changed tires, fetched gasoline, pushed cars off busy highways, jumped batteries and even helped a woman to safety who had recently been in an accident; in the place of a service that police could not provide or were the cause of. CopBlocking can be a direct approach, like running a couple of cops out of a parking lot who were looking to extort someone of their money. Its also flagging down a car in the lane next to you because the driver has their headlights off, and you understand that any police interaction presents opportunity for a negative situation. Copblocking is spreading knowledge and teaching others about their rights, whether it be on the side of the road or on your living room sofa.
CopBlocking is an idea that embraces humanity, peace, unity, individualism, accountability and community. These are often traits that are lacking in many statist ideologies, albeit justifying themselves as representing such qualities.
CopBlocking doesn’t have to be an event and it doesn’t have to be with other people. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re standing on a sidewalk with a camera pointed at police. More frequently, it is driving to the grocery store and seeing a car broken down on the side of the road, so you stop to see if that person needs help.
In the social field of psychology, “the bystander effect“, is described as a victim or a person in need of assistance being overlooked because groups of people will innately believe that ‘someone else’ will help. Copblocking is the understanding that one must be the change they wish to see in this world.
Copblocking is not about clicks and likes, or getting famous. It isn’t surprising however, when a CopBlocker receives a lot of attention for exposing a key component of corruption among police and government. Although, often times this is confused with raising awareness, as awareness is most effective when a large population of people are introduced.
Courage is something that a person must find within themselves. It takes a lot of courage to free yourself from the bonds of dependence on government and achieving the mental fortitude to break free from the chains of your indoctrination. To accept that is to understand you are the means to your own change, that your savior is reliant on your virtue; not in a several thousand year old book or a government doctrine.
For every person you help and every injustice you prevent, for every tyrannical command you disobey and every action that invalidates your oppressor’s existence, the revolution grows.
