Local media in New York reports that a large number of Occupy Wall Street protesters were arrested this afternoon near Union Square in Lower Manhattan.

“A spokesman for the protesters claimed more than 50 were arrested. The NYPD has not responded to WNYC’s request for comment,” WNYC reported at 5:32 PM EST.

“Protesters wielding signs that demanded ‘End the Fed’ and other anti-Wall St slogans marched up Fifth Avenue near Union Square on Saturday, drawing a significant police presence and snarling traffic in the neighborhood,” Chris Bannon writes for the radio station.

BuzzFeed puts the number arrested at around 80. “While the NYPD maintains that they neither own nor use tear gas, some have stepped forward to confirm that they were pepper-sprayed. In at least one video, a man is violently tackled for simply talking to an officer,” writes Chris Menning for the website.

NY cops have a reputation for man-handling non-violent protesters. In the second video here, New York City’s finest corral a number of female protesters and then pepper-spray them:

As should be expected, the corporate media has failed to cover the events on Wall Street this week in a meaningful way, instead choosing to portray the demonstrators as troublemakers and buffoons.

Generally in the UK, when the police arrest people it is fairly straightforward and little force is used. Only in a riot or pending danger is hard force is used. Most of Europe is this way and no doubt many other countries where police work under the consent of the tax payer.

My question is this; why do American coppers only do hard arrests. I am talking about forcibly prostrating people and sometimes sticking a boot and/or knee to conduct an arrest of someone who is obviously harmless?
gearin up for a pig hunt! roast pork on the spitt. Actually anticipate the day of the hunt. or days,weeks or how ever long it takes to rid our lands of these ferrell beasts that seem to be destroying our freedoms.

As you can see the peaceful approach just doesn’t do it. Its a shame it has come down to this, but they can only push us so far before we turn on them.

hang a politician, a wallstreet banker, lieing news reporters, judjes on the take or dirty cops. Stand up and take back what is rightfully yours. You’ll feel so much better that you did 🙂

I’m with you Keefer. Unfortunately, it is coming to that. Eventually they will push us into a fight, using foreign UN troops as pawns against us. Looking back, most of us will probably regret not taking extreme measures sooner. Oh well.

On the bright side, God will get these bastards in the end.

Actually, it’s more like EVERYONE on the gov’t payroll, including those whom you have named.

Just remember, we SURROUND them.

There are 70 MILLION firearms owners in the country.

Shaking out the gov’t crap, there are still about 66 MILLION.

They may have the firepower, but a well-placed .308 or .30-06 can do wonders.
Well, as I see it the NEO-CONS is going to use their NEO-CON secret Police Force to Protected them, from us poor no-violent protesters as we was exercising our Constitutional right to protest.

I am sure that since with all the video was taking of what was happening, I am sure many of these NEO CON Police Officers will be sued personally and also sueing the city for their own actions.

Only those that has insight, believe in Christ and reads the Bible, will know there is nothing you can do to change what’s happening right now?

The best is to adapt in that manner that you do not fall into their hands.

It’s already happening, mississippiblackman, particularly in California. It doesn’t appear that much has changed since the sixties in regards to blatant police brutality.
It comes as no surprise that the bigger departments, such as NYPD and Chicago PD are notorious when it comes to beating/pepper spraying citizens for little to no reason.
Thank goodness there’s plenty of people out there taking videos of these hideous jack-booted thugs and posting them on the web.
There’s no trusting the lame stream media to broadcast anything but what their masters tell them to do.

In the second video you can clearly see a supervisor in a white shirt walks up to them not even knowing what is going on, sprays them all then quickly walks away. It happens at about :20. This kind of behavior is unacceptable. This coming from a former cop. This is why I’m no longer a cop and have no respect for those types of cops.

I would think that most cops there agree with and support the protestors considering a good portion of the police pension fund was stolen from them by Wall St. but they still have to follow orders or they lose their jobs. The white shirts follow orders from the captains and chiefs, they in turn follow their orders from the elite. Shit always rolls downhill.

This won’t end good for anyone involved if this keeps escalading which I feel it will.

It’s as Alex said, the They WANT it (civil outrage) to go hot. If They can get that one juicy incident of several police officers being shot and killed (in Their news medias) then They can go ahead with implementing FULL martial law.

Plus this will also cement home in the public’s mind that ALL Cops are bad, and the police will feel that all non-police ARE out to get them in return. This truly is a nasty little version of the old ‘Divide Conquer’ tactic They’ve created here, but it still tends to work.

Overall in the end the Master Depopulation Plan will another few more steps…

Might not mean much, but I respect you, and your decision.
Those cowardly ass cops deserve to all be thrown in jail and that one supervisor that sprayed those defenseless women should be tarred and feathered medival style. Dont those idiots realize that these people are protesting for them and their families. What a bunch dumb ass waste of tax paying dollars those cops are and I mean all of themI dont care if they were just doing their jobs they are all bad cops for letting that one do that and arresting people for expressing their first amendment rights. Do those cops really think that elites are going to take care of them when shit hits the fan. The protesters are trying to help everyone including those cops but they are so conditioned to follow moronic orders than to pick up a sign and protest along side all of those people. They will soon realize that we outnumber them and when that moment comes the masses will win.
You still have the right to peaceful assembly. As long as your willing to be pepper sprayed and ruthlessly battered by “peace officers” of the Empire.

After your arrest, for using your right to peaceably assemble, you might escape with a small fine, a criminal record, “civil obedience” courses which you will pay for, and possibly community service. Not to mention any medical bills for getting the shit kicked out of you by those who are sworn to “Protect and Serve”.

Protect and serve the elites, that is. Amerika, Freedom to Facism.

Keep video taping the abuses. It’s the only defense we really have, outside of crossing the Rubicon and gettin all “Steven Segal” on the situation.

And by the way, a lot of people probably don’t go to protests anymore, because of the abuse. Everyone hates Wall Street. I think Jesse Ventura’s “Wall Street” episode was the straw that broke the camels back in that regard.
