Cyclist killed in far north Qld collision



A CYCLIST and a teenage girl have died in separate accidents in Queensland.


The cyclist, a woman in her 30s, died at the scene of a collision with a ute in Cairns on Saturday.

Police are investigating after the accident on the Captain Cook Highway at approximately 7.15am.

The the male driver of the ute being questioned.

On the Sunshine Coast, a 15-year-old girl died after a car went off the road and hit a tree at Ridgewood.

The girl was a back seat passenger in the vehicle and died at the scene while the driver and three other children were injured.

A six-year-old girl was airlifted to Nambour General Hospital with head injuries and is in a stable condition.

The driver, 35, and two other children, 11 and 13, were taken by ambulance to Nambour General Hospital with minor injuries.
