Dog used as bait to be ripped to pieces by fighting dogs

AN ANIMAL rescue charity has blasted the “evil” thugs who used a Staffordshire bull terrier to bait fighting dogs.

Bonnie was found wandering the streets with her face bloodied, side punctured and ears torn after she escaped being ripped to pieces two weeks ago. Thanet charity We Help Any Dogs has been nursing the three-year-old back to health.

The charity’s co-founder, Jacqueline Wright, said of dog-fighting gangs: “They’re scum. They get dogs or cats and they will throw them in.

“Sometimes they tape their legs together, or sometimes they pull their teeth out so they can’t defend themselves, and they throw them into the pit and they get ripped to pieces.”

Bonnie weighed just nine kilos – 40 per cent of her ideal weight – and was at death’s door when she was found in Medway.

Her wounds were infected and she was suffering from mange.

But a fortnight on, she has put on weight, her wounds are healing and will soon be ready for a loving home.

Mrs Wright said: “She’s developing, she’s quite cheeky. She’s still a little bit worried about quick movements and loud voices but she’s very willing to trust and she has a good sense of humour.”

Mrs Wright, who has eight dogs, believes dog fighting is becoming more prevalent.

She says fight organisers respond to adverts for unwanted pets on the pretence of offering them a good home, before using them to stir up fighting dogs before a bout.

Mrs Wright said: “People need to be more careful and they need to check these people out thoroughly.”

RSPCA spokesman Klare Kennett said reports of dog fighting in Thanet were rare and dismissed the collection of unwanted pets for baiting as an “urban myth”.

She said: “We would be interested in hearing from anyone that knows dog fighting is going on. It causes pain and suffering and we want to stop it.”

“RSPCA need to get their facts right. What about the bodies of 4 mutilated dogs, found in bin bags in Blackburn only this last week? Dog fighting is going on all over UK. RSPCA is too full of political dogma and corporate constipation to know what is happening on the street or indeed react swiftly to anything. People need to take very good care when trying to rehome their dogs privately.”

“Ms Kennet would do well to take advice from the Scottish SPCA back in 2007.http://tinyurl.com/7p7gwnu
I’m sure if the ROYAL section asked nicely, the Scottish SPCA would assist them in removing their heads from their back-sides.”

RSPCA you are nothing more than political scum trying to make bonus points, instead of caring for animals.
