Dog’s paws belly severely injured after possibly dragged by car in Clewiston

Investigation open: Dog’s paws, belly severely injured after possibly dragged by car in Clewiston

Animal rescuers say a dog found in Clewiston appeared to have been dragged by a car. She was found on the side of the road, her four paws were scraped down to the bone. Outrage is spreading on social media and several groups are joining together to increase the reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Gulf Coast Humane Society took the dog in Saturday after she was found with multiple bone fractures and a ripped underbelly.

The Humane Society’s Facebook page says the dog was found in the Montura neighborhood in Clewiston. Pictures from Facebook show a possible trail of blood on Appaloosa Avenue near where rescuers found the dog.

“Everybody has been posting it, people that don’t even live in Clewiston anymore are posting it and sharing it on Facebook,” said Eric Poulson, who lives in the Montura neighborhood.

Poulson saw the pictures on Facebook and says he’s never seen anything like this happen in his neighborhood.

“It was pretty bad seeing you know, its paws,” said Poulson.

Poulson has five dogs of his own and seeing the pictures of the apparent abuse angered him just as much as hundreds who are commenting on social media.

“This was torture. Somebody just wanted to have some sick fun I guess,” added Poulson.

Rescuers named the dog Aaliyah and say it looks like she recently had puppies. Since Saturday people have donated more than $1,600 towards a reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Public Information Officer for the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office says they cannot say for sure whether the dog was dragged. Detectives are investigating to find out exactly how the dog was injured.

According to the Gulf Coast Humane Society, the reward for information leading to an arrest is up to almost $8,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
