Chaired by Gamal Abul Saud, head of the security department at Cairo International Airport, the delegation comprised of a number of officials at security departments at the Cairo Airport, said security source.

The course aimed at upgrading the capabilities of officials at the airport’s security sectors and keeping them updated with latest airport security technologies, he added.

Tight security measures have been enforced across Egyptian airports following the Russian A-321 plane (on flight KGL9268) that crashed over Sinai late October killing all 224 passengers and crew members onboard.

Airport security experts from Russia, U.S. and the U.K. had visited Egypt during the past few months to investigate on security procedures for passengers and luggage at airports.

In mid-January, Egypt contracted consultancy firm Control Risks to assess security procedures at three Egyptian airports.

The crash, which British and Russian officials suspect was caused by an onboard explosive, damaged Egypt’s tourism industry and heightened airport security concerns globally.

“The crash has cost Egypt about 2.2 billion EGP ($281 million) per month in direct losses,” former Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou announced in a news conference in December.
