Mozambique gas_Ruvuna basin_(archives)The floating platform will be one of just three in the world and will be installed in the south of the Area 4 block in the deep waters of the Rovuma basin. Exploration of natural gas in the area is expected to help develop the Mozambican economy.

Discovered by ENI in 2012, the Coral field contains about 450 billion cubic meters (16 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas and in the first phase, scheduled for 2021, around 5 billion cubic feet of gas are expected to be extracted.

The floating platform has a capacity of 3.4 million tons per year and RINA Services will ensure that all equipment functions properly. This is the first time ENI is using a floating platform.

The platform, which was awarded to a consortium made up of Samsung Heavy Industries, France’s Technip and Japan’s JGC, will be 439 metres long, 65 metres wide, have a draft of 38.5 metres and weigh 210,000 tons.
